Week 17 NFL Power Rankings: The NFL Has a New #1 Team
The 2009 Regular Season is Down to One Week and the Power Rankings Reflect That
The week 17 NFL power rankings are presenting a change of the guard. The week 17 NFL power rankings also prove that there aren't any favorites heading towards the post season and that there are quite a few teams that could walk home with the Super Bowl trophy in February. The week 17 NFL power rankings even have a new team at #1, which could be met with some negative viewers, but alas, this NFL season has been full of unexpected results and that could lead to a week 17 NFL schedule of even more surprises. Let's start at the top with the new #1 team in the week 17 NFL power rankings: the San Diego Chargers.
The San Diego Chargers lead the week 17 NFL power rankings because they are the hottest team in football right now. They are proving that they know how to win football games, and they are blowing out their opponents. With a 10 game winning streak at their backs and the #2 seed clinched in the AFC, San Diego is proving that they could be the team to beat coming out of the AFC this season. San Diego is followed closely at #2 by the Indianapolis Colts, which could lead many viewers to think that this writer is predicting that the AFC is going to win the 2010 Super Bowl. On the contrary. In a season of upsets, the Super Bowl will be no different.
The #3 team in the NFL power rankings may also come as a surprise, because it's the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have put together a nice streak of games that show they both know how to win the close ones, and can beat difficult opponents. They could make the writer of these rankings eat his words if they stumble to the Dallas Cowboys in week 17, but we think they will show that they are playoff ready. The familiar faces follow those teams, still within striking distance of a Super Bowl and still commanding a strong following: New Orleans, Minnesota, and Cincinnati.
As far as the opposite end of the week 17 power rankings, the St. Louis Rams will look to lock up the #1 pick in the 2010 NFL Draft with another loss in week 17, and Detroit is not far behind as they seek to prove they are the worst franchise in football. Two wins over the span of two seasons is just not good enough, and something serious has to be done in the Motor City. Regarding the NFL Playoffs, and more specifically what's going on in the AFC Playoff scenarios a lot could change in the next week of play.
